Sophie La Girafe Rattles
Creation and industrial design of two rattle collections for Sophie la Girafe. Designed in-house by our studio and manufactured by Vulli (2025).
Challenges
Sophie la Girafe is an iconic teething toy designed to stimulate all five of a baby's senses from birth: sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing. Building on this legacy, Vulli sought to expand its range with two distinct rattles tailored to support early infant development:
A 100% natural rubber rattle, manufactured in China, designed for the brand’s premium and international line.
A dual-material rattle (rigid and soft plastics) incorporating an existing off-the-shelf component (the visual rattle bubble), manufactured in France for the mid-range domestic market.
Solutions
Our approach began with a thorough assessment of the industrial constraints and economic strategy behind each SKU—most notably the tooling and assembly ramp-up for the French production line.
Design provided a cohesive response across the entire lineup while strictly balancing brand identity, target BOM (Bill of Materials) costs, and distinct material behaviors. Because manufacturing processes differed between France and China, each rattle plays to the strengths of its respective tooling, assembly line, and material supply chain.
Clever, ergonomic, and aesthetic, these rattles carry forward and revitalize Sophie’s design heritage.

Ultimately, this project highlights industrial design’s ability to adapt to diverging commercial and supply-chain strategies for a single client and product category.
